If you’re building a new home, whether in Temecula, Menifee, or anywhere in Southern California, the framing stage is your best chance to plan for technology. Adding wiring later means fishing cable through finished walls, patching drywall, and paying more. Planning now costs far less and gives you a cleaner result.
1. Network and Wi-Fi
Wi-Fi is only as good as the wiring behind it. Run Cat6 to every TV location, home office, and gaming area, and to ceiling locations for Wi-Fi access points on each floor. Don’t forget the backyard, garage, and any casita.
2. A central equipment location
Pick a closet or utility area for a structured media panel or equipment rack, with power and ventilation. Every cable should run here, labeled and organized.
3. TVs
Wire every place a TV might go, including bedrooms and patios. Plan for a recessed box behind wall-mounted TVs so cables stay hidden.
4. Speakers
In-ceiling speakers in the great room, kitchen, and primary suite, and outdoor speakers for the patio, are easy to wire now and hard to add later. If you want surround sound, plan speaker locations around the main TV or home theater.
5. Security cameras and doorbell
Wire for cameras at the front entry, garage, driveway, side yards, and backyard, plus a video doorbell. Wired cameras are more reliable than battery-powered ones.
6. Motorized shades
If you might want motorized shades, especially on large or hard-to-reach windows, prewire those windows now. It’s inexpensive during construction.
7. Conduit for the future
A few empty conduits between floors and to the equipment location make future upgrades simple.
Builder packages vs. custom prewire
Many builders offer a basic low-voltage package. It’s worth comparing it with a custom plan from an integrator, especially for audio, Wi-Fi coverage, and cameras. We work with homeowners and builders alike, and our structured wiring installations are clean, labeled, and ready for whatever comes next.
